The December holidays are almost here! And that means that children can relax after a long year of school. With tests and restrictions, travel is still a bit of an escapade in itself, so many families are choosing to stay in sunny Singapore for the festive break. If you’re one of these families and searching for fun, enriching activities your kids can participate in over the holidays, check out UFIT’s sports camps this December.

There are a multitude of benefits that participating in sports activities can bring to children. Physically, they get to boost their coordination skills and overall fitness, and sports also help to hone mental resilience and teamwork. Chris Hodges, Sports Program Director & Personal Trainer from UFIT shares why their programs have become so popular and what is in-store this December.

START SPORT AT ANY AGE

It is never too early or too late for anyone to start exercising regularly, but it’s especially important for children. Sport has amazing physical and mental benefits and is great in aiding in the healthy development of kids. Physically, sport improves coordination, sporting skills, and prevents injuries. Sport also helps to promote resilience, problem solving and mental fortitude in children, attributes that are hard to develop in other settings. But the biggest and most important aspect of sport is the social benefit. Where children learn to win and lose with grace, work as a team, and make lifelong friendships.

WHY KIDS SHOULD EXERCISE

Regular exercise as a child is vital for healthy physical and mental development. Mentally, sport helps refine our social skills while developing confidence, drive and self-worth. Physically, exercise will help toughen up tendons and ligaments, strengthen muscles and develop movement skills. These help prevent the aches and pains too many of us are familiar with as adults. But crucially, regular exercise is important in fostering a passion for health and fitness in children that lasts a lifetime.

Sports camps are a great opportunity to experience and try something new, helping kids push the boundaries of what they are used to. New sports and activities can help kids learn new skills, an important part of picking up tricky tasks in real world situations. Mixing with children from different backgrounds will help develop communication, empathy and teamwork skills. Most importantly however, trying something new will help build confidence and self-esteem in other novel situations.

DECEMBER SPORTS CAMPS

UFIT’s next sports camps will be over the December school holidays with camps on the weeks commencing the 20th and 27th of December. UFIT has a variety of sport specific camps with Tennis, Mixed Martial Arts and Rugby (Touch and Contact) as well as Sports For Life Camp which will give attendees the opportunity to try a variety of sports and activities, all while helping develop mental attributes through play. No prior experience is needed to take part in any of the camps, as skill level will be accounted for in groupings and session planning. UFIT is happy to cater for all skill levels and experience in sport.
