Does adversity breed altruism? Apparently so, according to charity portal Giving.sg’s report of having amassed SGD 2.2 million in donations since the outbreak of Covid-19. As we approach the festive season, which is also synonymous with the season of giving, many of us are keen on giving a money donation and supporting charities in Singapore.

Taking place from 1–7 December 2020, Giving Week rallies individuals, businesses, and non-profits to share their time, talent, treasure and voice. Despite it being a tough year, the community spirit is stronger than ever and the movement provides constant opportunities to inspire people to big up any cause they’re passionate about.

Here are The Soothe’s top picks of creative local initiatives taking part:

1.    BoxGreen

Boxgreen is on a mission to promote better snacking. For every Christmas box purchased, Boxgreen will send a box of snacks to ex-offender's families under the Angel Tree Project in collaboration with Prison Fellowship Singapore.

2.    Uniqlo

Great clothing can enhance the lives of people everywhere. Get your creative juices flowing this holiday period and design your own t-shirt at Uniqlo with special stickers. Proceeds from sales will be donated to Community Chest.

3.    Pearl Hill Café

Located at 195 Pearl Hill Terrace, Pearl Hill Café will be hosting a book exchange station for you to drop off books you have no use for and perhaps pick a few up to add to your holiday reading pile. There’ll also be a mystery book sale and free basil plants up for grabs.

4.    Luxequisite

Luxequisite’s philosophy is that anyone can invest in heirloom classics. The online jewellery store will be selling a specially-designed brooch at $25, with all proceeds donated to a chosen charity.

5.    KCuts

Renowned for their express cuts by Korean-trained stylists, KCuts will be sponsoring seven haircuts per day for seven days across the 55 outlets to CHAS card blue and orange holders, Merdeka generation and Pioneer generation card holders.
