Gone are the days when healthy ice creams used to taste super artificial. Over the years, due to extensive research and development and consumer demand, many ice cream manufacturers are able to come up with healthy ice creams which are good for your body without compromising on flavour and texture.

1. Acai Berry Sorbet by the Ice Cream and Cookie Co, retailing for $12.90 on the Ice Cream and Cookie Co’s website as well as Fairprice

I recently tried the Acai Berry Sorbet for the first time, and it was a pleasant surprise. The mouthfeel and texture of the ice cream was creamy and smooth despite being dairy free. In addition, the ingredients are ethically sourced: the sugar used is bone-char free and there is no trace of animal or meat products. The best part? It claims to have only 108 calories per serving, which is equivalent to “45% fewer calories” compared to other traditional ice cream brands on the market.

2. Avocado Indulgence by Sugalight, $4.50 for a 120ml cup on Sugalight’s website and $14.50 for a 473ml pint on Fairprice Online

Sugalight has been around for quite some time, and they are probably one of the most ethical and trustworthy brands on the market. Their ice creams do not contain artificial sweeteners such as aspartame or sucralose, and they are quite transparent about naturally occurring sugars such as xylitol and maltitol in their ice cream. We recommend the Avocado Indulgence flavour made from chunks of avocado flesh for a perfect indulgent treat in Singapore’s hot and humid weather.

3. Earl Grey Teh by Calli, $14.90 for a pint, on Calli’s official website

Earl Grey Tea is a perennial favourite among many Singaporeans – we have Earl Grey cakes, Earl Grey macarons as well as Earl Grey ice cream. However, most traditional ice cream brands have a very high calorie content. That’s why former track and field athletes, Nathaniel Loe and Dzarrin Alidin decided to start their own brand of low calorie ice cream inspired by popular ice cream flavours. Overall, reception has been positive as some of their more popular flavours such as their Durian Durian and Choc Me Up Buttercup have been sold out.

4. Mango by Yole, $14.90 for 500ml, available on Cold Storage and Giant’s website (Yole is currently running a special promo price of $14.90 for any two flavours)

When Yole launched in Singapore, it was hailed as a successor to Llao Llao, a popular frozen yoghurt chain which had abruptly closed down. Since then, the brand has grown from strength to strength, diversifying and changing their product offerings to suit the changing tastes and preferences of today's consumers. One of their latest products to hit the shelves is the pint-sized tub of Mango Ice Cream which contains only 65 kcal per 100ml – boasting one of the lowest calorie content in the market.

 5. Vanilla Bean by Callery’s, $16.90 for a 473ml pint, available on Callery’s official website, Redmart as well as Shopee and Lazada

Callery’s, which is a pun on the word “Calories', sounds like the name of an artisanal ice cream brand from France. Despite the fancy sounding name, this humble ice cream brand was started by enterprising graduates from the National University of Singapore(NUS). Instead of reinventing the wheel, Callery’s prefers to stick to classic flavours such as Strawberries & Cream, Belgian Dark Chocolate and Vanilla Bean. At 59 calories per serving, the Vanilla Bean flavour with specks of vanilla contains 72% less calories compared to other brands on the market.

6. Strawberry Cheesecake by Ketoi Keto is available on Keto Ketoi’s official website at $18.90 for a 473ml pint, as well as Fairprice Online and Lazada for $20.90

There are dozens of healthy ice cream brands in the market, and standing out from the competition is hard. Nevertheless, Ketoi Keto has managed to gain a foothold in the competitive industry by positioning itself as a ketogenic ice cream brand. It is also gluten-free and free of any added sugars. With the Ketoi Keto Strawberry Cheesecake Ice Cream, you can forget about gobbling down a cheesecake for cheat day – it’s as good as the real thing.

7. Baklava by Kind Kones, $18.50 for a 473 ml pint, available on Kind Kone’s website as well as their physical outlets for $7.90 a cup (choices of flavours may vary across outlets)

Kind Kones is every health junkie’s dream: dairy and egg free, refined sugar free, preservative and additive free. The Baklava which comprises a unique combination of flavours such as Coconut Milk, Cashew Milk, Maple, Home-made Baklava (Filo Pastry, Walnuts, Pistachios, Lemon & Orange Zest), Raw Cane Sugar is a gastronomic delight promising an explosion of flavours on your tongue.

8. Raspberry Ribbon Ice cream by Denada retailing at $14.98 for a 475ml pint on Little Farm’s website

It’s time to show some love to lesser known brands in Singapore – meet Denada, an ice cream brand originally from Australia. Currently, they have 10 flavours for their pint-sized range, with a wide variety of selections such as Espresso Chocolate Fudge and Salted Caramel. For those who prefer a slightly astringent and acidic flavour in their ice creams, the Raspberry Ribbon flavour which is 98.3% sugar free will appeal to them.
