The best foundation for oily skin to beat Singapore’s weather

Say hi to a matte, shine-free makeup base that lasts all day

Text: Sam Y

If you struggle with oily skin, you probably know the horror of looking at your face in the mirror throughout the day and seeing your foundation caked up or smeared down your face due to Singapore’s heat and humidity. Not being the beauty look we’re going for, we scouted out five local women whose foundation appears streak-free at all times despite being blessed with an oily complexion. Add these to your makeup products for matte, shine-free skin and a flawless base that will stick by you whatever the weather.

“I have oily skin and for fuller coverage on a bad skin day or a night out I use Estée Lauder Double Wear foundation mixed with Victoria Beckham’s Cell Rejuvenating Priming Moisturiser. On a regular day I use Trish McEvoy BB Cream –– I’ve used it for years and it’s my go-to. Both methods last all day. I find that priming and the base is key, so I use oil-free serums and hyaluronic acid in the morning so that liquid foundation or BB cream doesn’t end up slipping off when I hit the humidity. In the evening I slather on oils and thick cream to re-hydrate.”

“I’ve struggled with oily skin all my life, and I swear by Rimmel’s Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation with Comfort Serum. It’s lightweight, breathable and lasts for hours on end. I have worn it out to parties without breaking a sweat. I have tried other high-end foundations that have been recommended time and again for oily skin, but I guarantee that Rimmel will always give you a run for your money.”

“I love the Tarte Amazonian Clay Foundation for my oily skin. It sets on your skin smoothly and evens out your complexion, giving you an even matte canvas to do your makeup on. I’ve used it on nights I’ve gone clubbing with friends, and it didn’t budge even after I’d been partying for over 12 hours. Even though it has a matte texture, it doesn’t make your face feel or look cakey.”

“I start with Benefit’s The POREfessional Face Primer before putting on Innisfree’s My Foundation series, which is great for my oily skin because I can personalise the level of moisture and coverage. I especially like it as it covers my blemishes well, so there’s no need to use concealer. It’s super long-lasting and I rely on it to take me from day to night.”

Fenty Beauty’s Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation is my absolute favourite. It has great coverage and doesn’t oxidise so it looks exactly the same at the end of the day as it did at the start. I recommend this to anyone with oily skin who needs a good quality foundation that doesn’t break the bank.”
