There are many things we love about living on the Red Dot — the cleanliness, the forward-thinking restaurant scene, the few but wonderful hiking trails …but what we don’t love is the humid weather that sends even the best-kept tresses into a frizzy frenzy. As a life-long Singers resident, I believed that no anti-frizz shampoo, hair treatment product or anti-frizz hair treatment could send me straight. That is, until I was inundated with Instagram ads showcasing before-and-after photos of sleek-inducing treatments and ideas on how to fight the frizz in Singapore.

So, over the last six months, I put my mane on a new campaign: smooth, shiny locks are the name of the game. Here are tried and tested hair treatments and hair treatment products that are truly The Soothe Approved for fighting hair frizz:

Mimosa Salon’s Hair Botox

Billed as an anti-frizz repairing nano treatment for frizzy hair, Mimosa’s popular hair botox treatment was my first in-salon attempt at improving my tresses. I explained that after a one-time attempt to be blonde (disclaimer: I have very fine, black, Asian hair) in 2017, my hair has never been the same.

The team at Mimosa assured me that the “revolutionary smoothing treatment” will usually last for at least three months, depending on my hair. Some customers apparently enjoy the effects for up to six months. The process started with an amazing hair wash and head massage before the application of the hair botox. I sat there with the magical concoction all over my hair, which was then blasted with a ‘nano mist’ that uses ultrasonic technology purportedly to really infuse the treatment. I remained this way for a couple of hours with K-Pop in the background as I prayed that this really works. Two stylists then blow dried and flat ironed my hair.

The result is straight, glossy locks. They tell you not to use any cleansing shampoos as that would strip your hair of the ‘botox’. I personally felt that my hair felt a little flat immediately after but it regained more volume in about two weeks. True to their claim, the baby hairs at the top of my head started frizzing again after about three months.

Mimosa Salon’s Hair Botox starts from SGD 399

PREP Luxe’s Signature Triple Resistance

I’d been an occasional customer at PREP Luxe for years and have friends who will only ever get their hair coloured here. Director Den Ng is something of a legend in the industry (he’s done Kayla Itsines’ hair!), so I felt pretty confident about getting my next anti frizz hair treatment here.

There are actually multiple options to get the ultra-smooth result you’re after at PREP — one is the Triple Resistance and the other is the Miracle Control. I went for the former at Den’s advice. What I love about this one is that there are zero chemicals in their formula, which is made of 12 natural ingredients. The process was very similar to what I’d already experienced at Mimosa but it took a lot less time. Perhaps this was because my hair was already semi-tame from my first treatment.

The Triple Resistance is also said to potentially last up to three months. My stylist was so confident of the treatment that I was told I could just do a rough blow dry my hair will look great. They weren’t wrong! My hair had more bounce from PREP’s treatment and loved that Den talked me through the process at the start, explicitly saying that he wasn’t going to make my hair ‘dead straight’. It’s been six weeks since my treatment and everything is holding up a-okay.

PREP Luxe’s Signature Triple Resistance starts from SGD 220 for short hair
