This year, the theme for International Women’s Day on March 8 is ‘Choose to Challenge’. By calling out gender bias and gender inequality, we can all help to create an inclusive world. With many companies and organisations pledging their support, and the likes of AWARE and Minority Voices getting more valuable stories out in the open, there are a multitude of ways to learn more and to get involved. One of our favourites combines equality, sustainability, online learning, and nourishment from a glass of wine, or two …

VIVANT is the world’s first interactive online platform connecting winemakers, consumers, and expert wine advisors in hosting a “Women in Wine” live experience. The 40-minute online education will introduce inspiring female leaders in what has historically been male-driven industry and explore how they got to where they are today. “Our ultimate goal is to support the transition towards a sustainable future for the wine industry, and you cannot achieve sustainability without equality,” said Lina Rödin, director of marketing at VIVANT.

Indeed, “Currently, less than 3% of the world’s wines are produced responsibly. We realised that we forget about the plight of our planet when it comes to wine. For an industry whose very existence depends on the health of the earth, this is astonishing. The wine industry is entirely out of sync with the global environmental crisis looming over our heads,” said VIVANT’s founder, Michael Baum.

Through education, VIVANT hopes to teach members that, as well as being beneficial to the planet, sustainable and organic wine tastes better and nourishes the body. (We at The Soothe can vouch that it does). As a bid to educate consumers on the magic of wine experiences without the carbon footprint of physical travel, all VIVANT winemakers sign the VIVANT pledge, promising to grow grapes and make wine with respect for customers and the environment. This means no synthetic chemicals in the vineyard, no additives in the winemaking process, and complete traceability of the grapes, winemaking, and aging process. The pledge also includes a commitment to workplace equality and diversity

The “Women in Wine” experience is hosted by VIVANT’s female wine advisors and highlights various career opportunities within the wine industry. Participants will meet women from different wine horizons, like Claire Lurton, owner of Château Haut-Bages Libéral (Bordeaux), and Amélie and Cécile Buecher, owners and winemakers at Vignoble des 2 Lunes (Alsace). The experience also features a conversation with Paz Levinson, star sommelier of Anne-Sophie Pic Group.
