Imagine the soothing sound of waves gently crashing against the shore, or the melodious chirping of birds. When immersed in such soundscapes, many of us are able to feel a sense of calm wash over us. That, is the power of sound.

According to astrologer Lisa Stardust, “sound has long been associated with alleviating physical, emotional, and mental anguish”. 40,000 years ago, ancient Greeks and Egyptians have already begun to use sound as a healing method for illnesses. Today, sound healing (also known as sound therapy or sound meditation) has regained its popularity as a form of new age wellness.

Sound healing is an immersive experience that uses Tibetan singing bowls, crystal singing bowls, gongs, chimes, and bells to guide you through a meditative state. The tonal frequencies produced by the instruments are supposed to help bring your body to a state of vibrational balance and harmony, slowing down your brain waves to a deeply restorative state and activating your body’s system of self-healing.

Scientific studies on sound healing have shown that it can benefit our health in numerous ways, such as improved sleep, lower blood pressure and cholesterol, as well as a decreased risk of heart disease. Furthermore, sound meditation was also found to be effective in reducing feelings of tension, anxiety and depression, and increasing spiritual well-being.

To help you reap the benefits of sound healing, we’ve put together a list of recommended studios in Singapore for you to experience this unique form of therapy.
