Looking to step up your skincare game? Finding a serum that suits your skin type might be the answer. Face serums are designed to nourish, protect and hydrate your skin, slipping into your daily routine after cleansing and before moisturising.

"Serums are skin care products that are designed to deliver high concentrations of specific active ingredients to the skin. There are many different types of serums on the market that perform different jobs, ranging from hydration to skin brightening." said Dr. Joshua Zeichner, board-certified dermatologist and director of cosmetic and clinical research at Mount Sinai Hospital's department of dermatology.

Face serums offer a wealth of benefits including fast absorption, soothing of sensitive skin, improving of the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles and protects your skin from free radicals. The Soothe team tried out a few clean beauty serums that you can consider adding to your skincare routine.

Kumuya Rejuvenate Serum

“A Nutri-Serum Concentrate with Bakuchiol, Hyaluronic Acid, and Magnesium, this regenerative plant-derived serum concentrate markets itself having powerful actives and micronutrients to stimulate and repair skin structure, restoring a healthier suppleness. Packed with active natural ingredients it even felt clean on my skin, due to the Hyaluronic acid that soaks deep into the skin to boost moisture levels. It didn’t sit on my skin at all and I used it mainly in the evenings as my skin type is oily. I woke up with fresh, replenished glowing skin and enjoyed using this as part of my evening rituals. The only thing I didn’t like was the smell, but the good thing is – I knew it wasn’t full of artificial fragrances.” 4/5

Luxe Botanics Camu Brightening Serum

“A hyper targeted treatment to revitalise dull, sun damaged skin, Camu Brightening Serum is a light, easily absorbable oil loaded with potent vitamin C and free radical fighting CoQ10, ferulic acid and tea extracts. Sodium hyaluronate and squalane plump and protect, revealing a naturally luminous glow. The application was easy, and it spelt as it should – packed with botanics! My skin did get slightly brighter after regular use.”4/5

Fresh Rose Deep Hydration Oil-Infused Serum

“Fresh’s first-ever oil-infused liquid serum created to deliver 24-hour deep hydration for dewy skin that’s plumped with moisture. I really liked that the serum wasn’t too sticky or greasy and is quickly absorbed into my skin. I usually am not a huge fan of rose fragrances but the subtle floral smell of the serum isn’t too overpowering. Given its watery consistency, this is definitely not your typical serum but more of a serum-toner hybrid.” 3/5

PSA The Most Hydration Serum

“For most of us over 30, our holy grail skincare almost always revolves around hydration. So, when I saw 'The Most Hydration' serum, I was sold. Gorgeous, millennial-esque packaging aside, the directions are simple: put a couple of drops on after cleansing and toning and watch it work its magic. First impressions were that the serum has a slightly gummy texture (reminiscent of cult fave The Ordinary's Hyaluronic Acid) and an almost herbal smell. I love that the ingredients in PSA's products are completely vegan and natural, although the untouched scent was not entirely up my alley. The serum absorbs fairly quickly and didn't leave a sticky residue like some other serums do. After using the product for a week, I felt that my skin was sufficiently plump even though I'm in an airconditioned space almost 24/7. It's easy to incorporate into your routine, and the price doesn't break the bank either. While it wasn't a life-changing product, it's a nice starter serum if you don't already have it as part of your skincare routine.” 3.5/5
