2021 so far has seen a string of green promises with world leaders, policymakers, activists, artists and more pledging to create a more sustainable future. As the climate crisis becomes ever more severe, each Earth Day that comes along takes on extra significance. Established in 1970 in the US, the annual event brings together millions of people worldwide in support of the environment, highlighting the urgent action we need to take to save our planet. Yet, it’s not enough for companies to talk about sustainability for just one day(earth day) out of the entire year – we’ve rounded up a list of top businesses with sustainable practices that walk the talk year-round and have sustainability and are eco-friendly as an integral part of their DNA for a more sustainable future.

Exploring the sustainable side of Africa with Singita

Every aspect of Singita’s day-to-day operations is around its 100-year purpose to preserve and protect large areas of African wilderness for future generations. They’ve highlighted clear sustainability targets for 2025, including using renewable technologies to become carbon neutral and measures to conserve water and waste management. A key initiative has been the drive of clean solar energy in the Kruger National Park, where 78% of the power required to run Singita Kruger National Park was provided by solar energy, resulting in a remarkable reduction in carbon emissions. Besides, Singita’s ongoing conservation efforts are undertaken alongside its non-profit partner funds and trusts, where progress is evident through the transformation of the areas under Singita’s care. The recent birth of the first black rhino calf in Tanzania in decades is a step in the right direction towards a sustainable future progress and achieving sustainability in businesses.
